Sam Groves | Assistant Coach
Sam Groves joined the Brown men's soccer staff as an assistant coach in April 2017. He returns to Brown for his second stint with the Bears after serving the last four seasons as an assistant coach at Babson.
“I am pleased to announce Sam Groves as our new Assistant Men's Soccer Coach,” said Laughlin. “Sam is an excellent on-field coach who is highly competitive and driven. When Sam left after the 2012 season I kept an eye on him and was hopeful that he would return to Brown men's soccer. I am glad he is back and looking forward to working with him again.”
Groves helped lead Babson to four winning seasons during his time as an assistant coach, including three straight NCAA Tournament appearances and a pair of NEWMAC Tournament Championships in 2014 and 2015.
Before Babson, Groves started his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Brown for the 2011 and 2012 seasons. During that time, the Bears won the 2011 Ivy League Championship and made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
A 2011 graduate of the University of Hartford, Groves played four years for the Division I Hawks, appearing in 67 of the team's 68 games and earning New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) All-Star honors as a team captain during his senior season.
